More money for new homes in Jersey will be made available in next year's budget according to the treasury minister.

Details of the spending plan will be released next week, but Senator Philip Ozouf said the boost to homes would be significant.

The government is locked into a three-year spending cycle but Senator Ozouf said there was room for him to announce changes.

He said one change would be a large injection of cash into housing.

The senator said: "In the budget will be set out how we are going to fund the housing minister and new housing corporation investment plan. It will show how we are going to deliver that investment in social housing and increasing supply."

He told a scrutiny panel funding had already been found to fund a new long term care programme.

The minister said that meant taxpayers were not having to pay more towards care for older people.
