Jersey number plates sold for more than £250,000

The auction of some previously unreleased Jersey car registration plates has made more than £250,000 for the island's government.
The most expensive was JSY1, which went for £65,000, while those with JSY and three numbers went for about £12,000.
Transport and Technical Services had estimated the sale, which it hopes to repeat, would raise about £100,000.
The auction was only allowed after the law was changed.
Previously anyone applying for a plate could request a particular number for a fee or pay to retain a plate when they sold their vehicle.
