Jersey removed from French tax blacklist

Jersey has been removed from France's tax blacklist, island ministers said.

The island had been listed as an "uncooperative jurisdiction" in August because of outstanding tax information requests from French authorities.

The French Government announced on Friday Jersey was no longer considered to be non-cooperative.

External Relations Minister Sir Philip Bailhache said the move came after "great efforts to meet the concerns of French ministers".

He said: "I am very pleased that these efforts have borne fruit."

Jersey would have faced sanctions by the French government on all French business with the island from January had it not been removed, the States said.

Sir Philip said legislative changes had been made as part of work to get the island off the list.

Treasury and Resources Minister Philip Ozouf said: "The news that the sanctions will not be applied will be warmly welcomed in Jersey."
