Emergency callouts lowest for years

Emergency callouts are at their lowest in over four decades, according to Jersey's Fire and Rescue service.

It deals with five fires every week, and a non-fire emergency every day.

The service rescues someone from a precarious or life-threatening situation in two out of every three weeks.

The service attends about 1,000 emergencies per year. Mark James, chief fire officer, said he believed the year ahead would be "extremely busy".
