Permission has been granted by Jersey States to redevelop the old College for Girls site for housing.

There will be 187 homes, 40 of which will be for people on lower incomes, said Jersey Development Company, which hopes to start work next Easter.

Historical features such as the dome on top of the building will be kept and the library panelling will be taken to the new college site.

The building has been empty since the college moved to Mont Millais in 2007.

In March 2013 the States denied permission to convert the building into housing on the basis it wanted social housing at the site.
