Jersey air and ferry passenger numbers continue to rise

Condor Ferries is the only firm operating between the Channel Islands, the UK and France

Passenger numbers at Jersey's airport and harbour continue to rise, according to figures released for 2014.

People arrived or departed from the island more than 2.26 million times last year, up by more than 90,000 on 2013 figures.

There was a drop in UK ferry passengers, but increases on the inter-island and St Malo route.

The biggest rise in passengers flying was those travelling to or from London, despite Flybe pulling out of the route.

Following their withdrawal Easyjet started operating on the route and British Airways increased the number of flights it runs daily.

Senator Lyndon Farnham, Economic Development Minister, said: "Despite the economic pressures we continue to face it is encouraging to see that year-end figures for both air and sea passengers appear to be heading in the right direction."

Doug Bannister, CEO for Ports of Jersey, said: "We look forward to the arrival in March this year of the new Condor vessel on the UK route, which will increase both passenger and vehicle capacity on this important sea link."
