Jersey's new hospital will not be split over two sites the health minister has decided, following a review.

Senator Andrew Green said the council of ministers had ruled out dividing the hospital between the existing site and Overdale.

There had been some debate over where the new hospital would be built.

Senator Green said they had narrowed it down to a choice of two places, but could not currently say where they were.

He said: "The four options we were looking at included a two site centre, rebuild the current hospital, a new build on the Waterfront and a new build at Overdale.

"We know the two site option doesn't work and we have dismissed one other of those options so are now down to two."

A scrutiny panel review in 2014 said the two-site plan would not be viable and suggested extending the existing site.

Nearly £300m has been put aside from the government rainy day fund to pay for the new hospital.

The final decision lies with the Council of Ministers and Senator Green said it would take about six years for it to be completed once the decision had been made.
