Bermuda's Island Games team may miss the opening ceremony on Saturday after their plane was hit by a catering truck.

The flight out of Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport to London was cancelled on Friday.

Bermuda were due to fly direct to London earlier this afternoon, but will now fly to New York's JFK and on to London.

They will then have to fly on to Jersey in the hope of making Saturday's event.

The team is now due to arrive in the island at about 17:00 BST on Saturday, a couple of hours before the opening ceremony at Howard Davis Park in St Helier.

The Island Games is a biennial multi-sport event with nearly 3,000 athletes competing in 14 different sports.

This is the first time Jersey has hosted the Games since 1997. The 2013 Games were in Bermuda.
