Hollywood director Steven Spielberg has given his personal permission for the film ET to be screened at a charity event.

The movie is part of the Jersey Film Festival and will be screened at Howard Davis Park in August.

Organiser Kevin Lewis said the director agreed as soon as he heard the festival was for charity.

The annual event, which shows films in the park free of charge, raises money for Jersey Hospice.

Mr Lewis said: "This film was actually withdrawn from cinema exhibition so we had to get special permission from Steven Spielberg.

"He didn't ring me personally, but we got the thumbs up from him."

Mr Lewis said the festival had a request to show the film and they contacted Universal Pictures in London who contacted Mr Spielberg in America on their behalf.
