Norovirus causes vomiting and diarrhoea and usually lasts three days

People in Jersey are being warned to take precautions against Norovirus after a rise in cases in the island.

The bug which causes vomiting and diarrhoea can spread rapidly.

Health officials say most people with Norovirus get over it within three days, and can help prevent it spreading by not going to hospital.

It is not known how many cases there have been but health authorities are aiming to prevent it spreading further.

Dr Ivan Muscat, a microbiologist at the Jersey General Hospital, said people feeling unwell should avoid food outlets and places such as the hospital.
