Jersey Post increase UK and international mail charges
- Published
Prices for sending post from Jersey to the UK and rest of the world are set to increase.
Prices for internal mail are staying the same, external, but Jersey Post said from 1 April the price of a letter to the UK would rise from 70p to 74p.
A letter to continental Europe would rise from 84p to £1 and a letter to the rest of the world from £1.05 to £1.30.
Jersey Post said declining volumes, losses on UK post and the "significant cost" of flying mail led to the rises.
The service also explained "recent pressures on businesses locally" and changes to UK regulation allowing postal services to increase charges for handling mail contributed to its decision.
A spokeswoman said: "Jersey Post has made every effort to absorb as much of the rise in international charges as possible, but due to the considerable increase this year, it must unfortunately pass some of the costs onto its customers."
