Islanders have voted to back proposals for St Helier to be twinned with a city in Ukraine.

About 75 residents voted unanimously for the motion to link with the port city of Mykolaiv at a town hall meeting on Wednesday.

The proposal came from Ukrainians living in Jersey, who wanted to show solidarity with their homeland.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said its "geography and culture" made it a "suitable choice".
