The island will be without gas for another day, the gas company has confirmed

Reconnection of gas supplies to nearly 4,500 customers in Jersey has been delayed, utility bosses have revealed.

Island Energy (IE) had hoped to restore supplies by Tuesday, but admitted it was now "not in a position" to do this.

Customers were left without supplies on Saturday, after IE was forced to shut down its St Helier gas plant, following a software failure.

IE apologised and said: "We're still working on restoring gas supply to your home and businesses."

"The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we need to ensure that all our processes are being followed correctly to get supply back," it continued.

"We are not in a position to start bringing this back tomorrow as we had hoped and apologise for this."

IE said updates on the situation would be issued via social media.

The company said to ensure that gas supply is returned "as quickly as possible", customers should make sure their supply is turned off at the meter, to make sure all gas appliances are switched off, and then to let the firm know.
