Island Energy confirmed gas supplies can be turned back on in properties

Islanders can now turn on their gas supply after a week-long island-wide outage, Jersey's gas company has said.

About 4,500 customers were left without gas since 7 October after a software failure at Island Energy's (IE) St Helier plant meant it had to be to be shut down.

IE said gas can now be used again in properties.

The company said people "may experience a delay upon turning it back on" but this is "normal".

It has urged islanders to "wait ten minutes" for the gas to return.

A statement from IE said: "You can now turn on your gas supply at the Emergency Control Valve (ECV).

"We've restored gas supply in your area. You can start using the gas again in your property."

Customers had been urged to wait to be told it is safe before turning on supplies.

IE chief executive Jo Cox had said on Tuesday the firm's La Collette plant had been shut down after a "rogue code" caused a power failure.
