The reopening of Hautlieu School has been pushed back

The aftermath of Storm Ciarán has resulted in the prolonged closure of a secondary school in Jersey.

Continued bad weather has hampered repairs on Hautlieu School in St Saviour, the government has said.

Hautlieu had been due to reopen on Thursday, but it will now remain closed until Friday at the earliest.

Students are taking part in home learning while the closure is in place and the school is still running a small number of exams.

'Avoid using coastal paths'

The government said where appropriate parents had been informed of the changes.

Learning continues at Samarès School and locations nearby, while essential repairs are being carried out in closed off areas of the school building.

Across the island, people have been told to remain cautious of unstable walls and trees and overhanging branches.

Landowners have been reminded to check for damage on their property.

The government said islanders should avoid using countryside and coastal paths where possible.
