Jersey electric car parking scheme to end in December 2024

A scheme providing free or discounted parking for electric vehicles in Jersey will not continue after 2024, the Government of Jersey has said.

Minister for Infrastructure Deputy Tom Binet confirmed the Eco-Permit scheme would run until 31 December 2024.

The scheme was put in place in 2008 to encourage people to buy electric vehicles.

The government said there had been a "sharp increase" in electric cars since 2008.

Under the scheme, electric car owners can use States of Jersey car parks for 12 months with no charge from the vehicle's initial registration. Parking prices are half price after 12 months.

But the government said the popularity of electric cars meant revenue from parking was decreasing.

It said: "Ministers will continue to work together in 2024 to review how best to support Islanders to make sustainable and low-carbon transport choices, prioritising walking and cycling initiatives."
