Jersey Farmers' Union appoints new president

A new president of the island's farming union has been appointed

A new president of the Jersey Farmers' Union has been appointed.

The role has been given to farmer Douglas Richardson who has held the position of vice-president since 2011.

He replaces Peter Le Maistre who had held the position for seven years, along with honorary treasurer Barrie Hamel who is also stepping down.

Taking over as vice-president is Mike Renouard and Chris Le Marquand is the new honorary treasurer.

Mr Richardson said: "It is a great honour to lead the Jersey Farmers' Union.

"Peter will be a hard act to follow and I hope to build on the collaborative approach he maintained in working with others on matters that affect the agricultural industry.

"I particularly look forward to working with all sectors of our industry, as well as other organisations, to ensure that farming in Jersey remains vibrant and viable."
