Central Market in Jersey gets late-night opening hours
- Published
Restaurants in Jersey's Central Market have been given permission to stay open for longer on Friday and Saturday nights.
Traders will be allowed to open to 23:00 GMT on Friday and Saturday.
The market will also stay open until 17:30 on a Thursday, instead of closing at 14:00.
Restaurant owner Paco Lola, who took part in a trial last year, said being open in the evenings had already made a "fantastic difference" to business.
"I think it's the way forward," he said.
"It's proven it's the way forward because people like it."
'Milestone moment'
Mr Lola said during the trial more islanders were willing to do their shopping in the evening.
"The culture of Jersey has changed," he said.
Jersey Market said the changes were a "milestone moment" for the St Helier market.
"We do hope other businesses will also want to open in the evening now that this has become a permanent fixture," it said.
