Applications for a fund providing financial support to people within the Jersey policing community have opened.

The Jersey Police Dependants' Fund serves as a lifeline to officers who have faced unforeseen challenges as part of their duty.

Mark Coxshall, CEO at Eyecan, said the alternative means of support intended to help individuals and families work through "difficult times".

Applications for the fund, worth more than £50,000, can be submitted online, external.

'Unpredictable circumstances'

Mr Coxshall said: "As a former police officer, I've witnessed first-hand the varied and challenging nature of policing."

The fund, established by the Butlin Family Charity Trust in 1982, is newly managed by the Jersey Community Foundation (JCF) - an independent charity.

Anna Terry, CEO of JCF, said the foundation welcomed the opportunity to manage the fund which provided "much needed" support to the island's police community.

She said: "As far as I'm aware, it's the only fund of its kind in Jersey. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the new grant panel that has been established to support us in reviewing applications to the fund.

"Like all of JCF's grant panels, they are all volunteers, and we are really grateful for both the time and expertise that they will bring to the panel."

The support covers Jersey police officers, dependents of police officers, honorary police officers, those injured while assisting on-duty officers and dependents of individuals falling into the above categories.
