Two people were rescued from the rocks at Plemont in Jersey on Saturday night - minutes before the tide reached them.
Jersey Coastguard said a couple had been exploring the caves when they realised the tide had cut them off from the steps.
The couple climbed onto a ledge and a member of the public called the coastguard.
Two RNLI boats and the fire service boat attended to rescue the two people.
Jersey Coastguard said islanders should always "check the tides before exploring the coastline".
