More than 700 people have written to ministers about a proposed offshore wind farm on Jersey's south west coast.

The Minister for Environment Deputy Steve Luce extended the consultation until the end of February.

The proposal says the wind farm, if built, would be able to produce enough electricity to meet the island's needs.

The extension will allow stakeholder engagement events, which were postponed due to the vote of no confidence, to take place.

Mr Luce said: "This is the moment for offshore wind.

"The whole world is moving in this direction - at a certain point the market will reach saturation, there will be enough offshore wind.

"We need to be in there on that upward curve taking advantage of this moment where the investment is flowing [and] the supply chains are established."
