Parish of St Helier gives £35,000 to charities

The Parish of St Helier has given £35,000 to four charities.
It is the first time the parish has given significant donations to selected charities rather than giving smaller amounts of money to more charities.
The money was given to Brighter Futures, Cheshire Home, Age Concern, and Family Nursing and Home Care.
It is hoped the money will help the charities make a big difference in the parish.
Constable Simon Crowcroft said: "In the past, we've probably helped 30 charities with small donations.
"We feel now that giving a bigger donation to a small number of charities is going to achieve more."
Jersey Cheshire Home was given £10,000.
CEO Donna Abel said "the money's going to go towards a specially fitted disabled kitchen" so "residents will have greater access".
"We're ecstatic and delighted and very grateful to the parish for the support."
Brighter Futures was also given £10,000.
CEO Fiona Brennan said: "It's a huge amount of money and many of the families that we work with live in St Helier so for the money to come from the parish means a lot to us.
"We work with 150 to 260 families every week and they need long-term support."
Age Concern also received £10,000, and £5,000 was given to Family Nursing and Home Care.
The grants came from the Parish's Charitable Donations Fund.
