A football club has called for more people from Jersey's Portuguese community to take up walking football.

The Portuguese Club of Jersey, said it wanted to give older players on the island an opportunity to stay active and healthy.

Walking football is a slower-paced version of the game.

Club president Julio Moniz said the sport was a "tremendous way for people to continue to be active".

Earlier this year, the club took a walking football team to a tournament in Madeira, in Portugal, where they finished third.

Mr Moniz said: "We're doing well in the regular league and we hope to build on that success and the success from Madeira too.

"Time catches up to all of us and this will help people keep on playing the game we love."
