Money left in Valerie Guy's will has been used to create Jersey Sport's Supportin Sport Fund

A new sport fund is being launched after a ballet teacher left money in her will to a charity.

Jersey Sport has announced it is setting up the Supportin Sport Fund, external, with £100,000 to be distributed to local organisations.

The charity said the fund had been made possible thanks to a donation in Valerie Guy's will.

Ms Guy, who died in July 2022 aged 101, ran the Jersey Academy of Dance for 74 years.

Jersey Sport said applications for the fund would open on 1 May before closing at the end of the same month.

The money can be used by sporting organisations on the island to help pay for costs linked to training, qualifications and upskilling, the charity added.

Steve Law, interim chairman of Jersey Sport and chairman of the Grants Advisory Committee, said: "As an independent registered charity, Jersey Sport are extremely grateful for the legacy money left us by the late Valerie Guy."

Organisations who want to apply for the funding can do so via the Jersey Sport website, external.
