Jersey fire service issues warning after St Helier flat blaze

The casualty received "precautionary checks", the fire service said

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has issued a smoke detector warning following a fire in a third-floor flat.

Two fire engines and nine firefighters were called to the blaze in St Helier at about 22:30 BST on Saturday after multiple reports of "smoke".

The fire service said a resident was still inside the property before they were rescued by crews.

The resident was unharmed and the flames were extinguished, the fire service said.

Posting on social media, the fire service urged people to ensure their smoke detectors were in working order.

"We would like to remind the community of the importance of having working, regularly tested smoke detection in your property," the fire service said.
