There are calls to build a new indoor skate park in the north of St Helier.

The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, wants to see the new facility built near the Millennium Town Park.

A £1.9m skate park opened in the west of the island at Les Quennevais in February 2023.

However, a skate park on the New North Quay was closed at the end of 2023, as part of plans to increase freight capacity in St Helier.

"Skateboarding is an important activity for young people," said Constable Crowcroft

Constable Crowcroft said he was "blown away" on a recent tour of the former Jersey Gas buildings.

He said: "There is an enormous show room, which could be used as an internal area, away from the rain and the wind.

"Skateboarding is an important activity for young people and the problem with the one out west is that residents of St Helier currently have to make that trip, and children of a certain age need their parents to drive them.

"The Jersey Gas showroom does offer possibilities for a community centre, with activity for all ages. Not just young people but the elderly as well, who don't have anywhere to get together."
