A trial park and ride scheme has started in Jersey.

Islanders can leave their vehicles at the car park at the Airport Playing Fields and use the bus stop at Route des Quennevais.

Users need a permit to park, which is free when they pay for a bus journey.

The trial, proposed in February by climate charity Jersey in Transition, could provide "significant data" for a wider roll-out, the organisation said.

Nigel Jones, chair of the charity, said: "We've got two big problems. One is the congestion that means every car journey into town takes far longer than it should and the other is the pollution and climate change."

Permit holders are able to park at the playing fields between 06:00 BST and 19:00 from Monday to Friday.

Islanders can pick up a permit application form from reception at Les Quennevais Sports Centre.
