LatAm Beats: Ava, deep soul from Brazil

Ava Rocha, a multi-disciplinary artist from Rio de Janeiro, describes herself as a "warrior for art, creation, invention".

With her dark expressive voice and pared-down arrangements she creates music that is haunting and compelling.

Ava is the daughter of renowned Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha, and she herself has made feature-length art films and experimental videos.

Her father died when she was very young but she says he is a major inspiration.

Her mother is Colombian, and the singer believes being a part of Brazilian culture and yet detached from it is important to her creativity.

Ava's first album Diurno (Daytime) was released in 2011.
