In pictures: Tears and joy after Brazil lose to Germany

Germany's first goal against Brazil was met by loud cheers from fans who watched the game at a public viewing at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

There was also celebration among Germany fans in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, after their team scored five goals in the first 29 minutes of the game.

It was a party atmosphere very early in the game for the Germany fans at the Mineirao Stadium in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

Some Brazilian fans wept as a succession of German attacks resulted in goals in Tuesday's semi-final.

Brazil fans were in shock and some left the stadium way before the final whistle - the five-time world champions suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat on home soil.

Grieving replaced the high expectations that the hosts and one-time favourites would make it to the final.

Thousands of Brazil fans in yellow jerseys watched their team's defeat on a giant screen at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro.

But after the game, it was Germany fans who were celebrating on Rio's most famous beach.

For the Brazilians left behind, it was a time of gloom, a feeling shared by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff who said she was "very, very sad about this defeat".

Germany will now face Argentina or the Netherlands, who play on Wednesday, in the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium on 13 July.
