An Asiana Airlines flight has crashed while landing at San Francisco airport, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more.

The Boeing 777, which had taken off from Seoul, South Korea, caught fire as it touched down.

Fire engines reached the scene and doused the flames.

The tail fin had broken off from the body of the plane.

Some 190 people were able to walk to safety, many using inflatable slides. But dozens of people were also taken to hospital, some in a critical condition.

There were 291 passengers and 16 crew members on board, including Chinese, South Korean and US citizens. Fire service chiefs and diplomats updated reporters on the rescue efforts.

The cause of the crash is not known yet but airline officials say mechanical problems are not thought to be to blame

Early indications suggested the plane came in too short and hit the seawall at the airport.
