The fires have devastated the landscape forcing over 82,000 people to evacuate. Although the fire is large, there are more than 20 different fires currently raging across the Western part of the US
The San Bernardino fire department says the size of the fire itself is more than 25,000 acres
The fires have scorched the surrounding landscape - the amount of area that has been devastated is still not clear
Firefighting helicopters have dropped retardant on flames
An unknown number of homes and businesses have been burnt
The area burnt is the main route that connects southern California and Nevada by road and train. California's governor has declared a state of emergency.
The remains of the historic Summit Inn, a favourite spot for drivers travelling between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The diner was burnt to the ground overnight
The flames have advanced, out of control, despite the efforts of 1,300 firefighters
