Ivor Novellos: Songs the stars wish they had written
- Published

Ed Sheeran was named the songwriter of the year 2015 at the Ivor Novello Awards
What's the song you wish you'd written? It's one of those discussions that always seems to come up after a few pints.
But what if you wrote that song everyone wishes was theirs?
The 60th Ivor Novello Awards, which honour song writing, took place in London on Thursday.
Newsbeat met some of the winners and nominees and found out which tracks they would love to have penned.
Jimmy Napes

The Stay With Me and Rather Be writer had three nominations to his name and is one of the most in-demand writers right now.
He picked up most performed song and best contemporary song for Rather Be.
But despite having a solid collection of other tracks like Disclosure's Latch to his name, Jimmy says hears a lot of songs he'd like to call his own.
"I think Take Me to Church [by Hozier] is one of them. I heard it this year and thought 'Where did that come from? Who wrote that?'
"I looked up the credits straight away. I had to take my hat off to him. It's such a beautifully written song."
Hozier

The song writing man-of-the-moment, unsurprisingly, has good taste.
Take Me to Church won the best song musically and lyrically at the ceremony.
But the man behind the track said the work of one of his fellow nominees, Bear's Den, brought "a lot of tears to the eye".
"I admire the song writing so much. That's what I love about song writing and these awards.
"A real song can really touch somebody [and] is more than just music."
Bombay Bicycle Club

The band walking away with the best album award for their fifth studio album So Long, See You Tomorrow, went for some 1960s classic tracks for their choices.
"I'd go with Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman - although he didn't write it..."
"Nice," said frontman Jack Steadman.
"I'd go with Clouds (from 1969) by Joni Mitchell just because of the lyrics."
