James Bond Spectre theme song: Who are the runners and riders?
- Published
Bond director Sam Mendes recently confirmed that the theme song for the 24th Bond movie, Spectre, is complete.
He said in a BBC interview that "fans won't have to wait long", before they get to hear the tune and more importantly find out who's been picked to sing it.
Spectre, in which Daniel Craig will make his fourth appearance as the MI6 agent, will come out on 26 October in the UK.
So who could be the artist singing?
Sam Smith
He was definitely, for the longest of times (and still is), the favourite to belt out a Bond theme song.
But with his recent vocal cord operation he may have missed out on the gig.
And, in a recent interview, he said he hadn't heard anything about the song and said he "would know by now", but he also pointed the finger in the direction of another singer.
Ellie Goulding
Yep, Sam Smith said in that same interview that he'd heard Ellie was up for singing the song.
But there are other reasons.
Put two and two together...
Adele
She did such a fabulous job on Skyfall, even winning an Oscar for the track, that there are rumours it could be her comeback track.
Adele, it would be an epic surprise.
Lana Del Rey
So why not take her old skool-sounding vocals and layer them all over an epic Bond song?
Kanye West
Because why not?
OK. So there was the controversial Glastonbury headline slot, that may have not got the welcome Kanye thought it probably should have.
But for all we know, all the time Kanye's been spending in the UK with grime artists could spell a new direction for a Bond song. Dreams can come true.
Taylor Swift
She is ruling the music world and could have her pick at doing anything right now.
And if the Bond team wants to get to a younger and wider global audience (not that it needs much help as Skyfall took a billion at the box office), then why not get Tay Tay all over a Spectre theme?
Shirley Bassey
She was the queen of Bond theme songs, belting out a grand total of three: Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker.
For nostalgia, and also because she can hold a grand note, why not get Shirley on board?
Plus Sam Mendes has said this is definitely his last time directing a Bond, so it may be a fitting farewell for him.
