Jon Snow keeps being spotted in Belfast, so what does that mean for next series?

He has a contractual obligation not to cut his hair until he's off the show and Kit Harrington has been photographed in Belfast with his trademark locks.

Naturally the internet has gone into meltdown about what that means for his Game of Thrones character, Jon Snow.

Large chunks of the cult TV hit are filmed in and around Belfast, but series five ended on a huge cliff hanger.

SPOILER ALERT

He was left bleeding in the snow in the last episode.

Speculation is rife, and now he's trying to hide his mane when he's walking around the city in civilian clothing., external

But Kit's presence in Belfast has got GoT fans hopeful that red stuff in the snow was just ketchup.

Here are some Newsbeat theories about what's going on.

1. GoT bosses are playing with us

Is he half dragon rider and half Stark?

Kit Harrington could just be in Belfast, being paid to walk around, still with the hair, because really he's dead in the show and has already filmed his funeral scenes.

The bosses are just messing with our minds.

2. Melisandre (the red woman) brings him back

Melisandre hasn't used the blood she got from Shireen's death

This appears to be a popular theory. Basically, Melisandre brings Snow back to life because red priests and priestesses have that power AND odd that she arrived at the wall just before his death.

Odd or timely?

3. Bran Stark will be in the next series and has powers

Jon Snow could be still alive

So Bran is now under a tree somewhere in the North learning to be a Greenseer. This means he has the power to see other places using Weirwood trees - and he also has the power to see and communicate with people in the past and the future.

In the most recent book, A Dance With Dragons, Bran sees a vision of his dead father Eddard Stark in the Godswood at Winterfell.

So there's definite potential for a Jon Snow flashback or tree-based vision.

4. Jon Snow is half Targaryen

Could Jon be related to Daenerys Targaryen?

There is, of course, a huge fan theory about him being half Targaryen and half Stark (born of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, the sister of Ned Stark).

That would therefore mean he is one of the three dragon riders, alongside D and Tyrion (who is widely believed to be half Targaryen).

This means there is more action and Jon Snow can't be dead.

5. He's alive, but...

None of the watchers on the Wall have really been taking notice about his warnings over the White Walkers and we left him dying. There in the snow.

Winter is coming and the head of the White Walkers (the one who raised part of his army after fighting the Wildings) would be mad not to make him second in command.

But alas, we know nothing, Jon Snow.
