Armed with lightsabers, Star Wars fans gathered at China's Great Wall ahead of the release of the next episode of the sci-fi saga.

Five hundred Stormtroopers joined them on the steps at the Juyongguan section of the Great Wall on the outskirts of Beijing.

A new trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens debuted earlier this week during the half-time break of ESPN's NFL game in America.

The film has sold more than 200,000 pre-sale cinema tickets in the UK within the first 24 hours of release - more than any other film, including the new James Bond flick Spectre.
