If you are not completely up to date with Game of Thrones, then this article may not be for you.

For those of you that are - HBO has just tweeted its teaser poster for series six and there are two things you need to know.

Firstly - Jon Snow is coming back. He's got a bloody face and his eyes are in shadow, but it looks like he COULD be alive.

And secondly, the drama will return in April 2016.

At the end of fifth series Jon Snow was attacked by some of the brothers of the Night Watch from Castle Black, who stabbed him over and over again.

As well as being released on social media, the poster has appeared on billboards across the US.

Lauren tweeted a photograph of a billboard, saying: "GUYS. It's a really bad picture but OMG JON SNOW BILLBOARD in Hollywood! Is he or isn't he?! #GameofThrones.", external

There have been rumours the character would be returning, with the actor who plays him - Kit Harington - spotted on set in Northern Ireland in costume earlier this year.

But with Game of Thrones' brutal approach to killing off key characters, there have been no guarantees he'd be back.

As author George R R Martin is yet to publish The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, this is the first time readers of the original books won't know the plot in advance.

The storyline in the television show has already departed from the novels and producers say there are more differences to come.

An exact date for transmission is yet to be announced.

When series five aired in April, HBO broadcast it to more than 150 countries simultaneously.
