Golden State Warriors have set a record for the longest unbeaten start in NBA history with one player in particular grabbing headlines.

Stephen Curry scored 24 points as his side beat the Lakers 111-77 to extend their perfect run.

Known as Steph, he is actually pretty short for a basketball player at 1.9 metres, or 6ft 3in.

And yet he's set the league alight with his creativity and point scoring.

So how is he so good?

The NBA posted this tweet showing him in action in the latest game. , external

Why Steph is special

Basketball England's Liam Wordsworth told Newsbeat that actually Steph's "weaknesses" were once written about in a scouting report.

It said: "He was too small and that he wasn't quick or strong enough."

"He's been in the NBA for a few years now and at the start he was not a humongous success. He had potential," Liam explains.

"However it's been the last few years where he really hit his prime."

Liam reckons that Steph is a bit like Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, at his best.

"His skill level far surpasses players in the league.

"Steve Nash, a future hall of famer, said last week that Stephen Curry may be the best player to ever play in the NBA."

He makes the impossible possible

Everyone agrees that Stephen Curry makes shots that look impossible. Liam told us he lights up the court with his skills.

"He is making shots that are 'unmakeable'.

"You can argue his style of play is quite erratic but at the same time for him he is under control. That's what makes him a special player."

Michael Jordan is seen by many as the world's best ever player, and his trainers aren't bad either.

So is Stephen Curry in the same league as Jordan? Liam thinks he has the potential to be right up there.

"He can be, it's only been the last few years where he has started to consistently play at world class level.

"He has always been a good player, I think this is going to depend on how this continues.

Great sportspeople might be born with talent, but most of them work really hard.

Steph Curry is no different.

Liam says there are a lot of examples of how he trains hard and always has done.

"He was the type of player that when he was young, whenever players turned up for training, he was already there sweating and had already done an hour of practice.

"He has the thing all coaches want, the willingness to want to be the best and always work hard."

He has some impressive pre-match rituals

He will throw 100 shots at the hoop and if he misses he starts again until he gets a perfect 100.

Liam says these rituals are common in the NBA with the elite players.

"With him I've heard he is trying to make swish shots, so it's not even going to touch the rim, and then starting all over again if he misses."
