He has been described as the Tom Cruise of porn, and even a feminist icon, but James Deen has been forced to deny allegations that he raped a fellow actor.

The porn star said that there had been some "egregious claims" made against him.

Stoya - his ex-girlfriend and fellow porn star - claimed he had raped her.

She tweeted: "I said no, stop, used my safe word. I just can't nod and smile when people bring him up any more."

James Deen told followers on Twitter that he wanted "to assure my friends, fans and colleagues that these allegations are both false and defamatory".

The porn star has a big female following but has annoyed people in the past with jokes about rape.

In the past, some people have described him as a role model for the adult industry.

However, he has now been dropped by a number of the companies which make and distribute his films.

He's also stepped down as a board member of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, which works to improve the experiences of adult performers.

The committee tweeted out a copy of a letter explaining he had resigned. , external

It said it was committed to creating a safer industry.

Since the letter was published, more women have come forward with allegations against him.
