Miss Colombia says losing Miss Universe crown was 'destiny'
- Published
Miss Colombia has said missing out on the Miss Universe title was "her destiny".
Ariadna Gutierrez was wrongly crowned the winner on Sunday when host Steve Harvey mixed up the result.
"Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this," she wrote on Instagram.
"I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world."
Miss Universe host Steve Harvey announced Gutierrez had won the pageant, before realising he should have said Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach.
The crown was then removed from Gutierrez and placed on Wurtzbach.
"I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes," Gutierrez said.
She said that Colombia and the Latin community were being talked about around the world because of what had happened.
The 21-year-old also congratulated Miss Philippines on her victory.
"The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible," she said.

Gutierrez seemed optimistic about the future.
"Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen."
Miss Universe host Steve Harvey apologised "wholeheartedly" for the mistake afterwards, saying he felt "terrible".
