Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley 'in line to play Lara Croft' in Tomb Raider reboot

Daisy Ridley could be in line to play Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot.

According to Deadline, external, the Star Wars actress is one of a number of stars in the running to take over from Angelina Jolie along with Hayley Atwell, Gemma Arterton and Kaya Scodelario.

Jolie was in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's The Cradle of Life.

Warner Bros and MGM are partnering together to produce and release the new movie with GK Films' Graham King producing the project.

Daisy Ridley, 23, is filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII at the moment, which is due for release in December 2017.

Tomb Raider is based on the long-running video game of the same name and follows English archaeologist Lara Croft.

Megan Fox, Kristen Stewart and Olivia Wilde have all reportedly turned the new film part down.

It was first released in 1996 for PCs, PlayStation and Sega Saturn consoles.

The latest version, Rise of the Tomb Raider, came out last year.

From 2006 to 2010, Ashes to Ashes actress Keeley Hawes was the voice of Lara Croft in four Tomb Raider games before returning in 2014 for Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

Lara Croft and Tomb Raider hold the Guinness world record, external for the most official real-life stand-ins for a videogame character - a total of 10 over the years.

On Thursday, Daisy Ridley said she wouldn't apologise for how she looked after she was trolled on Instagram.

She was criticised for how thin she looked in Star Wars.

She said: "'Real women' are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave. I am a 'real woman' like every other woman in this world."

Daisy Ridley grew up in Westminster, London, and played Roxie Starlet in one episode of ITV's Mr Selfridge as well as appearing in Wiley's video for Lights On.
