There's been a positive reaction from the first people to ride Alton Towers' Smiler rollercoaster since the crash on the attraction nine months ago.

Two women lost a leg and three other people were seriously hurt when their car hit a stationary carriage on the ride on 2 June.

It was blamed on human error rather than a mechanical failure.

Despite the history of the ride, fans piled in to the theme park on Saturday to have a go.

They asked followers on Twitter if they were "up for joining in the fun this season?" , external

Alton Towers released pictures of people queuing to get in.

There have been assurances from bosses at the theme park that the Smiler is safe and extra health and safety training has been undertaken by staff in the months since the crash.

But victims of the crash have publicly criticised the decision to reopen the ride.

The biggest complaint seems to be that the Smiler logo, usually placed on the front of carriages, was no longer present.

Alton Towers told Newsbeat: "They have been taken off as part of our maintenance programme.

"We quite often remove elements of branding for this across all our rides.

They will be put back on."

The Health and Safety Executive is prosecuting Merlin - which owns Alton Towers - over the crash and the company is due in court in April.
