After tweeting racist abuse at former One Direction star Zayn Malik, Azealia Banks has been dropped from the line-up of grime and hip-hop festival Born & Bred.

The US rapper insulted Zayn Malik after accusing him of copying her video for Yung Rapunxel on Like I Would.

After posting screenshots from both videos, she began a racist and homophobic rant.

Born & Bred festival tweeted to say it was removing Azealia from the line-up.

Azealia Banks has since deleted most of her controversial tweets.

Newsbeat has contacted Rinse FM for more information.

Wiley, Benga, Lady Leshurr and Mikill Pane are all set to appear on the bill.

After tiring of verbally abusing Zayn, Azealia turned her attention to UK rap as a whole, tweeting that "UK rap is just a disgrace to rap culture in general".

Understandably, British urban artists weren't happy.

DJ Target, Blizzard and NoLay were among the musicians who chimed in to argue with her when she claimed that none of her music was influenced by the UK scene or grime.

South London MC NoLay also pointed out that, despite her apparent disdain for the UK rap scene, Azealia has collaborated in the past with British rapper Shystie.

BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Charlie Sloth also had a heated exchange with Azealia.

Somewhat unexpectedly, Dapper Laughs also decided to get involved with some expletive-laden tweets.

We won't repeat them here, but he appeared to be defending the UK grime scene - and generating some publicity for himself - by pointing out that a number of prolific grime artists joined Kanye West on stage at the Brit Awards last year.

Azealia then tweeted a screenshot from a blog post suggesting she may have mental health issues, and had "finally snapped" after putting up with racism throughout her career.

Despite having time to argue, Azealia has yet to comment on being dropped from Born & Bred festival, which takes place in Haggerston on the 4 and 5 June.

Twitter says it doesn't comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons.
