From goat curses to terrible teams, these are the worst losing streaks in sport
- Published
The Chicago Cubs have broken one of the longest-running losing streaks in sport by winning Major League Baseball's World Series for the first time in 108 years - that was way back in 1908.
They beat the Cleveland Indians and have ended what many fans called, The Curse Of The Billy Goat.
In 1945 the Cubs were cursed by a fan with a smelly goat.
William Sianis was kicked out of a game 71 years ago because of the odour of his pet, Murphy.
Newsbeat tweeted about the curse being broken when the Cubs reached the finals., external
Sianis is believed to have sent a message to the Cubs then-owner Philip K. Wrigley which read: "You are going to lose this World Series and you are never going to win another World Series again.
"You are never going to win a World Series again because you insulted my goat."
Here are some of the other worst losing streaks in sporting history.
'The worst team in England'
In April, New Mills (dubbed by sport critics as the worst football team in England) were relegated from the eighth tier of the sport, the Northern Premier League Division One North.
It had been a spectacularly awful season for the club, having lost 26 consecutive cup games and conceding 136 goals.
In their final match of the season, they lost 9-0 to rival team Spennymoor.
The record-breaking Premier League losers
Derby lost 4-0 to Arsenal on 22 September 2007 and didn't win a game until 13 September 2008.
Derby finished the season at the bottom of the Premier League with a record low of 11 points.
They are currently 19th in the Championship.
The team so bad, its badness had a Twitter account
Hyde FC had such a rubbish streak in 2013 and 2014, the Twitter account @HaveHydeWonYet, external was started to keep track of their wins and (mostly) losses.
They lost 30 games in nine months before breaking their losing streak in January 2014.
Things aren't all bad for Hyde. The most recent tweet from @HaveHydeWonYet, posted in August reads simply "Yes".
Ten terrible years
But no matter what's happened in UK sport, you can rest assured it's probably worse in the US.
And for the football team at Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College, The Prairie View Panthers, it was 10 long, miserable years between wins.
They lost 80 straight games between 1989 and 1998, but their record has improved in the years since, winning their season in 2007.
The worst NBA season ever
The 2015-2016 season of the NBA was a record breaker for the Philadelphia 76ers - but not in a good way.
During this, and the previous season, the 76ers lost 27 consecutive games, the longest losing streak in American professional sports history.
The 76ers manager, Sam Hinkie, resigned from his position near the end of the season.
