Giant sea monster skull on show in Dorset

A skull from one of the biggest sea monsters ever found is being shown to the public.

The beast, called a pliosaur, has been described as the scariest predator the Earth has seen.

The 155-million-year-old fossil was found in Dorset, but it's taken 18 months to get the skull out of its rocky casing.

You can see the creature in very good detail, and it's on show at the Dorset County Museum.

Richard Edmonds, a science expert, said: "This is amazing. We saw this fossil initially as a pile of bones - and slowly, after a lot of hard work, it has come together.

A local fossil collector called Kevan Sheehan discovered the skull.

He said: "It was sheer luck - I was sitting on the beach, and saw three pieces. I had no idea what they were, but I proceeded to drag them back. Then over several years, I'd go back every year and find a new piece. I'm a beach magpie."
