Japan have won the women's football World Cup for the first time ever!

The ladies team managed to fight off the tournament favourites from the United States in a nerve-racking penalty shootout in Germany.

Top Japanese player Saki Kumagai scored the winning penalty taking the squads lead to 3-1.
