Pictures: Algae turns the sea green in eastern China

When you're heading to the beach you think of sun, sand, sea and... green algae?

Loads of the green stuff has appeared off the coast of Qingdao in the east of China. This guy doesn't want to let it put him off his daily swim!

The algae isn't dangerous for humans but it can be pretty stinky. We hope this kid is good at holding his breath!

Algae is pretty common in the area and happens when warm water mixes with chemicals from fertilizers which have swept into the sea.

Last year a green tide or algae bloom covered nearly 200 miles of sea in the area - this guy has discovered a speedy way to cut through the green stuff!

The algae can be dangerous to fish as it uses up a lot of the oxygen in the water.

Local officials worry that the green slime will stop people from coming to visit the area - but it doesn't seem to have stopped this lot!

Loads of people have been trying to clean up the green goo but it isn't an easy job!
