New cable car over River Thames opens to passengers

The brand new River Thames cable car is officially open for business.

The cable car reaches heights of 90 metres, that the same height as Big Ben.

Passengers get a bird's eye view of the City, Canary Wharf, Thames Barrier and the Olympic Park on the 5 minute trip.

The cable car took £60 million to build and can carry up to 2,500 people an hour.

Tickets cost £3.20 for an adult with an Oyster card and £1.60 for children.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, opened the cable car. He said the timing of the opening was great for the Olympics.

"As the world's eyes focus on our city, I can think of no better message to send out across the globe.

"People will come and ride it as a great tourist attraction. They will bring their families and their friends for a great day out."
