Find out how football rules have changed through history

Football has its fair share of controversy with every refereeing decision discussed for hours and the debate on goal line technology raging on.

But there was a time when the rules were even more hotly disputed, back in 1863 when the first official laws of the game were laid down.

They included rewarding players who caught the ball with both hands with a free kick and playing with a pigs bladder instead of a ball.
