Elephant water fight for Songkran Festival in Thailand
- Published

Children and elephants splash each other during a water fight in Thailand, south-east Asia, ahead of this weekend's Songkran Water Festival.

Songkran is a Buddhist festival that celebrates Thai New Year, which starts on Sunday. People mark the event in various ways, including splashing water at each other.

Splashing each other with water is said to wash away bad luck from the previous year.

People use everything from buckets to water pistols to spray family, friends and even strangers.

The wet and wild event has become a major tourist attraction.

Water fights like this one in Ayutthaya will take place all over Thailand and in other south-east Asian countries during Songkran.
