Sugar intake 'should be halved'

Today the Government has brought out rules they think we should follow to make sure we don't have too much sugar in our diets.

The advice for kids is to stop having fizzy drinks and fruit juices altogether.

They suggest sticking to milk, water or diet drinks.

It's after a committee of scientists advised the government to halve the recommended daily intake of sugar.

Sugar doesn't just come from sweets and chocolate - there are sugars in every day food too like yogurts, fruit, cereal, biscuits.

Now health experts are saying kids should only have a maximum of 30 grams a day (roughly 7 teaspoons).

It's thought a quarter of the sugar in your diets comes from sugary drinks and that if we cut down we will have less health problems, like diabetes and being overweight.
